~Jewish At Christmas~

Santa will be here soon, with his eight reindeer
at my neighbor's Christmas tree, with envy.... I peer
with stoplight colors, candy canes and tinsel
strands of light, all night...on and off they twinkle

a mystery of gifts, dressed in shiny paper
infused with the Pine tree's heady vapor
front porches festooned with greens
and red ribbon swirling in between

the world is a riot of colored lights
with carolers singing "Oh Holy Night"
and stores bedecked with winter dazzle
try hard to soothe the shopper's frazzle

but I'm Jewish, I don't celebrate
this must be the chosen people's fate
every December with an envious urge
to celebrate Christmas, I resist the urge

but I want some gifts in shimmery attire
I wish I could sing in a Christmas choir
and come home to that pine tree, twinkling bright
instead.... I will light my Menorah tonight
~

A reindeer for every candle, eh?

G-d bless you and yours Lyra.

I offer my own poor prayers, and candlewax.

My son has been wanting a menorah--

since he was four years old.

He will be thirteen in January.

I think it's time. Don't you?

smiles and hugs.

love you Lyra.

Happy Hanukkah.

(prolly spelled that wrong, but it's my fifth beer, so gimme a break?)

new traditions are good sometimes...urges sometimes need to be fulfilled and enjoyed, and you can somehow mix the two if you are creative enough, not neglecting one...just one year may do you good. Go with your heart. You deserve all you want.

I long ago stopped thinking of this season as just 'Christmas'...there are so many friends who celebrate Hannukah that it's become a 'Holiday' to me. It doesn't matter how you celebrate. The thoughts of love and peace are the same. 'Happy Holiday' Lyra.

Sure great to see you here, M.C.

Jesus was Jewish, too, well, out of the line of David, via Mary.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Lyra,

I love this poem and the sentiments, therein.

That God brings all of us together as we reach out to others in harmony  during this rich season is one of His gifts to us. May we pass along His blessing of love to all those whom we touch, as you have touched us.God bless you and yours.

Happy Holidays!

Hugs and warmest regards, Pat

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Lyra, I know just how you feel, and, quite honestly, I wish I could light the candles on the candleabra every year and celebrate Hanukhah too but know even if Christmas may not be a holiday in your tradition, you can always enjoy it, for He was born and His love is for everyone so I see it as more of a day of love for everyone in the world! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all wish you the happiest holidays, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Happy Hoidays to you dear Lyra. I light a candle each night, for you and all the world, to help us find our way out of the darkness of our own hearts. Your heart lights always shine brighter than any tree lights.

Lyra

I think that everything you do is special.  To light a candle is a beauiful symbol of your faith.  Happy holiday, Lyra...so much love surrounds you from so many, I am just one.

And what a lovely Menorah it is, Lyra...so what is it about holidays, that sometimes we would trade them?  Perhaps the mystery that surrounds them, do you think?

you light your Menorah
I will light some candles
religous? I am not at all
does it really matter how we call

a time of reflection, of peace and joy

does it really matter what we believe
as long as we respect the other
for me...all religions are the same
I call everybody....brother

do like me, light a candle if you want to
hang your pine full of sparkles real bright
the candles in a beautiful Menorah
aren't different from the ones on Christmas' night

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow

Breathe through the heat of our desire

Lyra, you sweet lady, you can certainly join in the Christmas festivities as well as Christians could join in Jewish activities...we are all humans...we all have a God and who's to say all of our Gods are not one in the same? Take the time to smell the evergreen
