The haunting cries of the midnight loon,
the trilling wail motif
that fills the crisp air...
my mind wandering
with wonder and in awe
at the beauty God poured
into this feathery creation.
My primeval screams and prayers
are answered
in the echo of the loon,
my heart's delight,
and I rest in peace
knowing my loon spirit
watches over me each night

What a beautiful post to start things off! reminded me of a fishing trip to Honey Harbour where i saw and heard my first loon as the sun slowly rose over the lake.

Raph, loons are beautiful, aren't they? The cry of the loon is magical.

Vicky, thank you.

Martie, it is a cry and wail you will never forget. There are many loons that swim around the Pt. Mugu area, perhaps you've seen them but not heard or recognized them as loons.

Hello Kacy

I envisaged a very tranquil picture of a lake as clear as crystal, surrounded by pine trees and imagined the call of the loon breaking this perfect silence.  Thank you for these beautiful images I enjoyed through your words.  I wish you all the very best for a very Happy Christmas.

Take care......Sue

Happy holidays to you as well, Sue. Yes, the loon is often found on secluded tranquil lakes.

Midnitesun - I love to hear the loon cry in the night, haunting yet still on a lake of glass...

ive never heard it,
just grew up mainly with pidgeons, living in the city, had to go to the beach, whree i live now, to hear the cries of the gulls,
beutiful sounds, i feel they cry for us down below in empathy of what we have to endure
being grounded

The otherwordly trilling, as the mist lies on the water, haunts the morning.

Yes, they're beautiful.

Have to tell you, I'm the same as Martie, re the hearing of a loon!!! I've watched them on t.v. and probably heard them there, but it didn't stick in my memory. Hearing them in person surely would.

A fine poem, M.

You are a kindred spirit, I believe, with a love of natural beauty and the world around you!!  When I was a young girl, we would go camping at a lake named 'Loon Lake', and this write brought me back to those days, and the call of the loon. Thank you for the memories, my friend!!!

Pen how you truly feel...
it is a safety-valve for the soul!

A thank you cry from this loon, to all who have shared moments with me. I hear the magic and mystery of life in the cry of the loon. Happiness and sadness mingled together, reflective of all Life, and Love.
