I lived my life dancing in the rain

Living life hard and fast, with everything to gain

I was not just alive… I was invincible

I shouted to the clouds, “I am untouchable!”

As the clouds began to thicken

My pace quickened

They would not slow me down

They could not make me frown

People reached out to me and offered their assistance

I only laughed and continued in persistence

I leaped over puddles and never stopped

I ran so fast I missed every drop

A smile warped my face

I ran faster, faster, never slowing my pace

Distorted laughter erupted through my lips

As I left everyone behind in the dark abyss

When I turned a corner, I was too late to see

The monstrous lake that lay before me

For one horrific second, I realized I was no longer going for a stroll

I had finally lost all control

I plunged face first into that lake

I thought “I’m going to drown for God’s sake!”

With bleeding wounds, I struggled to stand

But there was no one left to offer their hand

I slipped, tripped, and wallowed about

I opened my mouth to yell, scream, or shout

There was nothing there

I had been running naked; bare

My safety net was nowhere near

I had thrown it away without worry or fear

The harsh, unyielding rain pounded on my back

Drop after drop smack after smack

I knew it in my heart “This is it. I’m done.”

I had no more energy left to skip or run

I closed my eyes, waiting for the end

But then I heard a sound I didn’t comprehend

“I love you,” He whispered and gave me His hand

With only His help, I knew I could stand

He gave me his jacket to protect me from the rain

He sacrificed himself to endure my hurt; my pain
