We have lived and loved together
Through many changing years;
We have shared each other’s gladness
And wept each other’s tears;
I have known ne’er a sorrow
That was long unsoothed by thee;
For thy smiles can make a summer
Where darkness else would be.

My soul whispers softly,
A heart cries out loud.
Do you hear it?
Is it not loud enough?
A spirit abandoned, A soul betrayed.
My soul whispers softly,
Our past but blood in the earth.
The only drums, my heart pounding in my chest.
The only pride, that which is hidden deep beneath my breast.
My heritage, I will never lay to rest.

Sing to me of far away places, of ocean dreams, and different faces.
Sing of mountains, valleys, and the eagle flying high.
Sing to me as time passes by.
Sing to me of my ancestors, and all these things!
SING TO ME OF DREAMS….
Sing to me of Sister Moon, of the earth my mother, of the wolf, and of the bear, my brother.
Sing of my forefathers, how they fought with their hands.
Sing of my Cherokee people, and of their “Spirit Dance.”
Sing to me of painted ponies running free, of my ancestors, and all these things!
SING TO ME OF DREAMS….
Sing of the winding river, and of the whispering wind.
Sing of the hollows, and the plush hills that never seem to end.
Sing of the great harvest, and the time of the black butterflies.
Sing of the hawk soaring through the skies.
Sing of all these things!
SING TO ME OF DREAMS….
But most of all, sing to ,e of my sweet Cherokee.

I couldn't agree with everyone more - what a welcome addition you will be to the site.  This was an incredibly beautiful posting, and I printed and kept it with others I have treasured from poets here.  Welcome to Passions and enjoy the people and inter-action in poetry here.

As I have likely often said...many of the "Native" (true) American writers
(especially the female authors) are, in my ever-most-humble opinion, the
very best contemporary poets amid this "Runaway American Dream".
They typically speak with the truest 'voice' of Nature and that which is
deepest and finest in the human spirit!

A grand welcome to "Ketooania"  into the "P.I.P.-world"  family of talented
wordsmiths and special human beings!

----from a "weaver" of second-hand dreams!
