As I was praying, which I am not very good at, a little voice said to me "sweetheart, when you pray with faith there are no conditions" And that is when I realised I had been bargaining with God. I would ask of him my requests and promise this or that if I got it. Then go through my life treading thin ice afraid to do anything. I learned that God loves me no matter what and wants to answer my prayers and that he already knows that I will do this or that. I learned that prayers prayed out of fear do not work. Now I am trying to learn how to find the kind of faith that I thought I already had. This is hard for me. God tests our faith every day. And as the situations in our life get harder and harder to cope with we know that is when God is closest to us and teaching us about faith. No one can stand in the way of God. And for the first time in my life I know that. I haven't been to this forum very much but it has been a HUGE help in changing the thoughts that I have in my mind every day. Thank you all. I appreciate your wanting to pray in a better way as I still strive.  I see myself extremely hot,(seared by temptation), dirty(sinful), and thirsty (needing to drink from God's fountain of wisdom and love).  Approaching God in prayer is like walking under Niagra Falls in that condition.  He's washing us clean, helping us avoid temptation and pouring forth His loving wisdom.
The Lord's Prayer is the perfect outline to follow when praying.  It's not just about our wish list, but about all God's given, His promises of being the same yesterday, today and always, never leaving or forsaking us, His power, His understanding, His word, becoming flesh to walk amongst man that we might understand His unconditoinal, neverending love. His death on the cross in our place, paying our debt, was done willingly out of love.

Hopefully this is helpful to you.

God bless,
   Rae

Thank you so much for reading. I appreciate your comments and I like what you had to say about being hot, dirty, and thirsty which so many of us are. Thank you again, Take Care, JulieAnn

Ps After readingthis a second time I think I may be wrong on one point...is it God that tests our faith or is it Satan? Hmmmmm...
