The Daughter of Jairus
20 February 2000

Was thy daughter dead
as in Mark chapter five is read
For Jesus said in leave
be not afraid, only believe

The damsel is not dead
but sleepeth the scripture said
Taking hold of her hand
He hinted to Talitha she can

Damsel, I say unto thee, arise
to each on lookers surprise
Instantly she arose and walked
of this twelve year old people talked

Thus came the Saviours warning
and no need for mourning
To command she should eat
while He had others to greet

“While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the
synagogue’s house certain which  said, Thy daughter is
dead; why troublest thou the Master any further? As soon
as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto
the ruler of the synagogue,  Be not afraid, only believe.”
Mark 5: 35-36 KJV

“While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the
synagogue’s house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead;
trouble not the Master. But when Jesus heard it, he answered
him saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.”
Luke 8: 49-50 KJV

I like the way you base your poetry upon scripture. Nicely written

I really loved the way you kept the wording in the king James version style.  This is my favourite miracle that Jesus performed because I was sick and near death when I was a kid and He eventually opened a door to heal me.  I really liked this poem and the way you went about writing it.  Great work.  Keep it up.

This is my favourite miracle of Jesus.  When I was young I was very sick with epilepsy having roughly 5-20 seizures every day.  I often closed my eyes pretending to be Talitha.  One day, when surgery was an option, I felt His hand in mine, basically saying the same thing, that I would rise and be healed.  And I have been without seizures for 16 years now.  Awesome poem.  Loved it a lot.

many years ago, in the 1930's , a young American man was going on a journey, to teach about his love of Christ, in England

before he left, has father gave him a card with five words written on it

"Be not afraid, only believe"

Today that man is an old man, and he is the leader of the 4th largest church in the United States of America. Although he was born in 1910.

The church has 15 million members worldwide and nowadays just under half live in the USA.

This story of the Bible I wrote about is special to me, and was a scripture I truly wanted to write about.

Next to Luke 24: 16 , this is my second psalm I ever composed directly connected with a passage in the Holy Bible

My works relating to Luke 24: 26 , I believe I posted in another thread here
