The Cleansing
By Paul Wilson

The cold water covered my face
as I leaned backwards into the river
Three times this was repeated
each time making me shiver

Repeat after me the preacher man said
I accept God as my lord and savoir
I confess my sins and ask forgiveness
I promise my faith will never wavier

The congregation all shook my hand
saying welcome son... God bless you
I was just a boy of twelve
I didn’t know what to say or do

Smiling I said thank you to all
while standing there dripping wet
I noticed a stranger standing behind
the others that I hadn’t met

He was tall and dressed in black
with eyes that looked like fire
The others kept their distance
to meet him they had no desire

I walked up to the stranger
and asked him his name
I go by many he said but mostly
I am known as the keeper of the flame

I turned to run away from him
But God was blocking my way
He said don’t be afraid my child
I have cleansed your soul this day

Satan can’t hurt you anymore
Today from him you turned away
I have cleansed your soul forever
come kneel with me and pray

Many years ago I accepted
God as my savior and he accepted me
All my life I have tried
to be what he wants me to be

A touching write.  How true it is that many of the fears that would otherwise sink us, are tolarated or even confronted with the grace of God.  Thanks for sharing.
