First Fruits

He gave with an unstinting love
When he died upon the cross.
We share back what He first gave us
Nor count it as a loss.

Just once a year, our dear pastor
Asks us to free our purse
In the name of our own loving God
For those who have it worse.

We offer Him the best we have
When to our Lord we're giving.
We bring a joyful, willing heart
And call it First Fruits Living.

Yes, we are not asked much of from Jesus our Lord.  And all too often churches don't help the widow, orphans and the poor.  They have the money to refinish the inside of churches but don't take the time to pick someone who can't get to church up.  And I am speaking from personal experience.  The church will have to answer for a lot when the time comes when we FINALLY meet Jesus in the air.  I lvoed this poem.

You are very right.  It doesn't hurt us any to dig into our wallets once a year to help those less fortunate than ourselves.  Who knows, we may become one of them one day and require that kind of help.  It is better to give than to receive, but someday we may be on the receiving end and be thankful that we once gave.

Great poem and full of truth enjoyed reading it and pray that I won't just be a hearer but a doer.
