When All I've Loved

When all whom I have loved are gone,
Dear Lord, when I'm the only one
Who cares if I should live or die,
When there is no one left to cry;
Then Lord, take me.

But if there is a single soul
For whom I play important role,
Who might just stumble, lose his way
Without my guidance through the day,
Then I would be

Content to stay another while
To give him courage, bring a smile;
Teach him to look to You above,
For truest guidance, purest love,
His way to see.

Then I would say, "My work is done.
On Earth there is no other one
Who needs the love I have to give.
No reason now for me to live."
Dear Lord, take me.

What a selfless request in His servanthood!

You've been a constant inspiration on these pages for any who read your work and I'm one who's been carried through a crisis by it.

Bless you and thank you,

It is wise to consider those whom the Lord has put into our care for they are the inheritance that is past along the vine watchful to receive his grace.

Joyce,

I like the inner conflict expressed here between "Lord, send me!" and/or "Lord, take me home!" and I do agree with you with mutual hope and faith as long as we remain here, as you've expressed, that God would give us a most challenging work to do and a most creative and inspiring word to share. Thank you for sharing your heart here my Christian friend and God bless you. -Bob

This is a beautiful prayer.  Desire for God is a wonderful thing, but understanding the purpose of life on earth can help us to love God even more.

On a formal note, I love your choice of stanza structure here, with the imperative conclusion of the stanza coming in a metrically brief compared to the quick pace of previous lines.  It drops off into a kind of pause, a contemplation, and a sense of certainty.  It really brings the poetry to life.

Take care.

Dear Joyce, My Friend--
You've been a source of comfort
Of Faith and Hope and Love--
Your work here is not finished
Or else you'd be above.

Thank God for such like You
Who of self freely give,
To die is Gain for you
But Christ, so long as you live!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What a lovely poem and sentiment
Of a devoted life of service
Which you have in so many ways
backed up by your actions.
Thanks also for the great encouragement & blessing that you have been to me!
God Bless You-Either Way-
LOVE,
  David
Every Day's a Blessing
And Gift-Wrapped from Above,
Share it with another
And Spread the Father's Love!!!
May You come to Know His Best Blessing
