The Crucifixion

On the back of a small donkey
Dear Jesus took his final ride
Going to great Jerusalem
Where he knew he'd be crucified.
His followers trailed after Him
Waving palm leaves for their new King,
Not knowing that this Christ Jesus
Was aware what the trip would bring.

They shouted their loud Hosannas
Without knowing the awesome fact.
Christ's journey was his final one
And would all the world impact.
They thought Him their earthly leader,
Bringing justice to their harsh lives,
But one of them would betray him
Before another week arrives.

This one sells Him out for silver
Another friend denies him thrice.
Christ accepted without rancor,
This need for His sacrifice.
The humble little donkey
Carrying our dear Lord with pride
Would share in the grievous sorrow
On the black day Christ Jesus died.

"Blessed is He", the people shouted,
"Who comes in the name of the Lord!"
Yet to save themselves from danger
They soon denied Him with a word.
"Crucify Him, crucify Him!"
Those wicked men and women cried.
How much truer the small donkey
When Holy Christ was crucified.

Joyce...Touching and sadly tender.
A moment of silence each day for all he has done and continues too do for us...Paul

Love the perspective from which this was written. The donkey being more loyal than many of Christ's human followers, is food for thought.  How often we fail at the most critical moments in life.

Thanks for sharing this gem.
