Murky Bog
(On making judgments)

Though eyes may not behold it
Sacred life dwells in a bog
In the bleakness of a quagmire
Underneath the blinding fog

In the ominous black waters
That are mirror to the sky
In the dark and fearsome visions
That intimidate the eye

I believe that there is beauty
I believe that hope survives
Even in pervasive forces
That cast shadows on our lives

Even in the earth’s most horrid
And despicable of men
There’s a worthy soul to salvage
Before time comes to an end

Underneath the thickest swamp mist
Fringed by frothy olive scum
It is black opaque waters
Cypress roots are nourished from

For the magnitude and wonder
Of the Sculptor’s Holy Hand
Reach into the murk of swampland
And the soul of vile man

The sweet finger of redemption
Churns the thickened muddy brine
And can twist the scum of waters
Into roots of His design

Judge not what you deem as worthy
In a foul and dreary bog
Know that there is sacred life
Beneath the veil of misty fog

And kneel down upon your blemished knee
Before the Grace of God

Wonderful!  I love the brevity of the last line, it really brings impact into the final word, and gives a small space for contemplation.  This reads like a musical dream...

Lovely writing, Ms. Santos.  I wouldn't expect much less from you.
