The Promise
(Continuation of The Pledge)

Ruth and Naomi shortly found
That they were on familiar ground.
They entered Bethlehem and there
So many people stopped to stare
And welcome her. Ten years away,
Just disappeared like yesterday.
Elimelech, a kinsman had,
Whose name was Boaz.He was glad
To see Ruth in his gleaning crew.
Her story he already knew.
He told his threshers to be kind
And leave some extra grain behind.

So Ruth then filled their daily need,
Both with wheat and barley seed.
Naomi saw her industry
And pondered if it couldn't be,
That Boaz might take her to wife
And give to her a better life.
She counseled Ruth to dress her hair
And find her nicest robe to wear.
Then go to watch the winnowing,
But hidden in a shadow's wing,
Until the man lay down to sleep
And from her hiding place to creep1

Ruth's heart in fear began to beat.
She lay down at his unshod feet.
At midnight, Boaz, startled, woke.
Saw Ruth lying there and spoke.
He promised if no relative
Made offer for her, he would give
His name to her and wife she'd be,
So they could build a dynasty!
It came to pass just as he said.
Their first born son, they named Obed
And from him came a line of kings.
God is the master of such things!

Betty Lou,
This is unbelievably wonderful.  May I print this to take to Bible study on Wednesday night?
