Huddling in the dark

It's been a long hard race,
still I'm not quite done.
I don't see the finish yet-
all I can think about is the pain I feel-
and how I long to go home.
I've been left behind,
and fear I've lost my will.
Through all my thoughts, I hear a voice
that's saying, "You're not quite done yet,
you have so much left to run."
I ask the voice as I'm running what it means.
Nevertheless, all I hear is the wind
whipping past me- my unsteady breathing-
and that voice urging me on.
"Faster, Faster, Faster!
You've not much left to run."
However, I argue with the voice,
"There's no one else around, I've been left behind.
Surely the race is lost; I can't ever catch up.
I'm just to far behind."
"But they are just ahead of you,"
that voice persists, "please hurry.
Try to catch up."
Just as I'm about to give up,
I see the other racers.
I'm running so much faster,
racing to the top of the pack.
The finish line's only ten feet away,
I'm finally almost done.

I've made it across the Glittering Gold line.
"You see," says a man dressed in perfect pure white,
"what you can do if you just listen to me?
You were in last place with no hope of returning.
However, at the last you put your faith in me.
So, I took my faithful servent
and carried her Home.
