When the moon straddles light and dark
and sacred stones the wind caress,
then shall the sanctified embark
while mundane world is at rest.

Countless shadows murmur deep
as ripples stir the chaliced sea.
The World awake is still asleep
afraid beyond the Veil to see.

Secrets found not on a shelf
but in the nook of Gaia's arm.
Do what you would for yourself
but to another cause no harm.

Knowledge does come at a price:
Cursed by others as a vice.

Say it again, brother!! Say it again!!! I understand and I see and not only see, but feel. Thank you for putting my feelings into a piece without even knowing it. Wonderful read and I will have to save it and read it again later.

*hugs and kisses*

Aye, so true, so true.

The only thing I see that needs a tiny li'l tweak is the first line. It's a syllable too long. Other than that, it's simple, but sweet.

"Secrets found not on a shelf
but in the nook of Gaia's arm.
Do what you would for yourself
but to another cause no harm."

I like the last line- very nice rearrangement of 'An' it harm none, do as ye will.'

I do thank you for the replies. Actually, I was wondering if I would be flamed for this one, as it is for the friends and family members who are Wiccan. But I went ahead, wrote it, and posted it, though I'm a Christian, for I am rather persneckity and Spiritual seems to have evolved into Christian only. Meat and potatos every day can be OK, but from time to time, one desires Cajun.

Amara, thanks for the critique. I was a bit snooked when I wrote this, and it sounded just fine to me, not realizing at the time the mix of trochaic and iambic which would throw the meter off. I see that now, but I'm far too lazy to get off my duff and fix it. Let it ride!

Thank you, my brother, Ali, for this dash of spicy spirituality. It exemplifies the best of both of worlds I think.

I don't often try to explain my beliefs, but like you, I am a mixture. In the wiccan community, I am, as you know, termed "solitary eclectic." I have worn a cross to sabbat and a pentacle to church and it never occurred to me that anyone would ever have a problem with that.

I'd not deny my patriarchal leanings anymore than I would deny my father. Nor will I deny my MATRIARCHAL leanings or feel the need to apologize for HER either.

And? I think the mixture of meter, though perhaps unintended, exemplifies this. When I read, it's like an image forms in my mind and the poem becomes a symbol itself. In this case, you could say, that the meter renders the poem top-heavy. Or you can just smile, and take note that it tapers down, much as the inverted triangle symbol of a yoni.

Coincidence?

Not for me.

God Bless you and blessed be.

You are a wise and wonderful poet, and I'm proud to call you brother.

(sigh) Oh Alicat, I didn't find any reason one may feel flamed in here, sweet friend, it is not blasphemous to anyone as I believe almost all if not all beliefs believe knowledge must be carefully obtained and there comes a common link! (big angel hugs) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Alicat, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Alicat, I quite liked this although I am not Wiccan.  There was truth here and well put.
