One Foot in Heaven

Before you left, we should have known
That God would take you for his own.
It wasn't just your form and face,
That made you perfect for His Place,
It was the sweetness of your heart.
We realized right from the start,
You catered to the old and weak.
His Word you always seemed to seek.
We'd find His messages to you
In pockets and in school work too.
Although you seemed a normal boy
And brought your family endless joy,
There was a sign that we ignored,
That you were destined for the Lord.

A cloudy Easter Sunday, where,
One ray of sunlight lit your hair.
You wandered off, it followed you,
To river's edge and there on view,
The water suddenly reversed.
The light became a brilliant burst
And for some seconds, you were gone!
Oh, how that memory lingers on!
You returned with radiant smile.
One foot in Heaven, all the while.
Too short the years, but we will be
United for eternity!

Betty this is absolutely moving! Beautifully written.  You really do have a gift for writing! Is this a recent loss?

This touched me as I lost a close friend to drownding when he was 15, and another very dear friend when he was about 20 to leukemia.  This was a beautiful poem and I understand the pain.

Well.... I can't get away from crying in this poem... It was so beautifully written, Betty Lou.... and even though the event was one of sadness, it was also one of joy... of knowing what a wonderful place this young one wandered off to find.... and which awaits us when we reunite with those we have missed too long.

Now pass the box of Klennex.... tears of sorrow for your loss, Joyce, and tears of joy in knowing he is in the arms of the Father.
