I Dreamed of Eagles

I dreamed of eagles, soaring high
And screaming fiercely from the sky.
I watched their wingtips as they drew
Big circles there, against the blue.
They screamed again; dove out of sight,
Just dropping from their dizzy height.
The hills and trees obscured my view.
I couldn't see what happened to
The eagles or the prey they sought.

Odd moments, all day long, I thought
About how beautiful they seemed.
Though I see real ones, these I dreamed
Were greater, grander and I feel
Subconsciously, they might conceal
Some message for me, but from where?
I'll leave the image of them there
Within that place inside I keep,
The unexplainable and deep!

I have never seen an eagle and I can't even imagine the thrill of it! They must be very grand, whether in your mind or as they fly across the sky.

The line I highlighted is just fabulous.

I loved this poem.  Hugs, Marti

So majestic they are to see in flight. Like the trees, and mountains they soar above. This was beautiful!! Thanks for the images that brought back the reminder how majestic Gods wonders are! Very nice.

Marti:  I am fortunate to live where eagles are plentiful and never tire of watching them. In December every year, we have an influx of traveling eagles who come to Lake Coeur d'Alene for the kokanee salmon run and it is a sight to see!  They perch in the high trees along the bay, close to where we live and make swooping dives to pick up fish from just under the surface of the water.  It's wonderful to see.

Thanks for your lovely comments.

Love
Betty Lou

Shara Rose:  I am grateful for all the wonders of nature, but eagles have to be right at the head of the list! Thanks.

Beautiful Betty Lou!  What amazes me most about them is how they seem to hover doing "nothing" then dive so fast and can get one small fish so quickly and surely.  Life is truly amazing.

Beautifully done.  I get a stray eagle or two in my tree tops in the winter.  The fish is gone and they are here watching for a wayward duck.  I've never seen them actually get their prey.  Joyce

Hello Betty Lou

I have always been fascinated by birds and in particular eagles.  Thank you for taking me on the wings of an eagle.

Take care.....Sue

Joyce:  We have a couple of eagles who fish in our creeks.  Where the two creeks meet, there is a wetlands area and there must be a lot of fish in there, because we see them coming up with fish from their dives. They are really gorgeous birds!

Sue:  I suppose you have sea eagles where you live?  Plus other wonderful birds of course!  Thanks for your comments.

(smiles) My ancestors in the Cherokee tribe value the eagle so very highly and believe them to be a symbol of grace, dearest friend, I envy the eagles majestic flight so much and just love to see them ascend and glide effortlessly, sweet friend, they truly are our feathered friends of God! Noah:  Thanks for telling me about the esteem the eagle is held in, by the Cherokee People.  Many others share that feeling I know.  We see eagles often around here, and always have to stop whatevfer I'm doing and just watch! They are so beautiful.
