Be still, feel my heart, know it cannot last
listen to my voice, soon I cannot speak
touch with your hands my body, warm, alive,
know soon one day nothing will remain.

From air I came, to air I go, a thought, a memory,
banished to the land of “once upon a time”.
No fairy tale, nursery rhyme, historical review,
or footsteps in the sand left as a legacy.

Not yet but soon condensed I am into an entity
to mourn, grieve, remember, a body burnt to ash,
the closing of a door on all that could have been,
and the lack of true insight into my role in life.

Be still and believe how important is a heart,
listen to a voice that can’t easily be heard,
know that a body is the casing of a soul
and touch ever gently the invisible, the real.

Maybe that’s too much but soon, very soon,
air, the home of butterflies, welcomes in a mind
spotted and disfigured by disbelief and fear,
ignorance of love and the role it should have played.

Then see how colour fills the air up, down, left, and right,
from every angle beauty, forgiveness, and pure love!

Helen

I have on occasion got to speak to seniors that were indeed dying, and some felt as this poem depicts.  For some felt almost remorse, followed by the relief of knowing they were being validated, understood, and indeed, accepted in the their final hours.   I really enjoyed where you took us with this one.

I don't want to know where I am going, it will ruin my journey.

Thanks, Mysteria.  Yes, I do believe that it will be that way but too I hope it's not soon for me.

What a beautiful picture of the ceasing of this life and entering into the beauty of God's presence. As you said, life is good right now though! Enjoy it, but love God and serve Him so you can enjoy eternity in Paradise as well.

Oh, make me Thine forever
And should I fainting be
Lord, let me never ever
Outlive my love for Thee

Thank you, LoveBug, for reading and for commenting.  Hope of a future life is the mainstay of the present one - without that nothing would make any sense.

I enjoyed the entire poem, Helen, but, I especially liked this:
From air I came, to air I go, a thought, a memory,
banished to the land of “once upon a time”.
No fairy tale, nursery rhyme, historical review,
or footsteps in the sand left as a legacy.

Not yet but soon condensed I am into an entity
to mourn, grieve, remember, a body burnt to ash,
the closing of a door on all that could have been,
and the lack of true insight into my role in life.

Makes me stop and review my goals in this life.

Thanks,
Melton

Thank you Melton but you do know, of course, that "review" is an ongoing activity.
