FORGIVENESS VERSUS THE RESTORATION OF TRUST

When you forgive you set aside

Your thirst to extract payment

Allowing men to crucify your pride

To die for others is why you’ve been sent

When you forgive you must release

Even though emotions are not appeased

Even though you are precisely right

And your opponents deserve a fierce fight

When you forgive you do not betray

The claim on justice for the King

Nor do you from righteous principles stray

Though your intellect to the altar bring

When you forgive He never promised a sense

That the relationship would have mend

In fact it may remain quite tense

Should the offender see no need rescind

Forgiveness you’ll find to be a process

Not a flick of the switch and all is right

Base emotions return like soldiers from fortress

To assault you in the middle of night

War a good warfare and fight a good fight

You get to participate in your deliverance

By My Spirit, son, and not by your might

From resentment’s anger you’ll have severance

Trust, you must see a different matter

Be counseled to distinguish the two

Having been honest with foe about his failure

The offender must now come to you

While you wait, pray is what scriptures say

Because the day may come or not

Ask for the grace to love any way

If he desires your trust, it must be sought

ah...my infantry was up most of the night, marching to the beat of this 'war'...
am printing this to read and reread...'this' is my battle...sigh...but with faith...the Lord and I will win it

So many truths are captured in this 'peace.' I've stuggled in the aftermath of forgiving while the perpetrator uttered not a sound, nor ever admitted the obvious wrong. Yet in time, those very hurtful events diminished in importance and the realization of the peace between us now is truly the greatest reward.
Thank you for sharing this.

LayItDown:  Very good poem!  Forgiveness is one of the hardest things we need to do, I think.

It took me years to forgive someone but once done, it is so healing, and now it comes easier.  What an excellent message in your poem.

Thank you for your thought provoking poem, which contains true wisdom.
When forgiveness is offered with a sincere heart, I think it gives total PEACE. I have experienced this. Sometimes, as you say, emotions survive, this means forgiveness has to be renewed, in the end there will be only Love.
Love, Margherita

(big hugggssssssss) Forgiveness is not meant to be received like a present or T-shirt, no, it is all a cycle and is granted through incessant patience and listening, where trust works as the sinew! (sigh) This is so wonderfully wise, dearest friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Jack, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!
