As a symbol of love God planted a tree,
said, “Go seek and find, name it for me,
so future will know there was always a past.”

Enthralled with thoughts he created a mix,
gave them roots to secure them in sand
and saw it was good but never told me
I’m like a tree and hold in my being
the start of it all.

He called forth rain, hail, sleet, and snow,
to test the worth of his creation on earth.
Sometimes he cried, as I do tonight,
for wanting it all they dropped leaves in the fall
and destroyed the weak with anger and war.
Today they still grow but don’t yet know
how to access the trunk of God’s awesome love.

God sent a sign but they do not have eyes.
He gave them a branch to reach far and wide
but they settled for up in a line to the sky.
Like soldiers they marched attacking God’s love
and decrying their fate at the hand of mistakes
but still they grew new little trees
and upturned the soil beneath their own feet.

Lumps and clumps marred the smooth feel
of how it can be when love is set free
so they tripped and fell by the axe of their greed
till all that was left was one lonely tree.

God tried again to grow many men,
and saw it was good when they started again.
Soon like the trees they became evil beings
and God asked, “What now?  How can I leave
like a fallen leaf and watch them burn,
shrivel, die, without me?”

He asked me, he did - said, “Give me a clue”
but I’m only in spirit aligned with the trees
and not one of them to know how they feel.
Maybe he knows he gave the trees roots,
my choice free to me and that’s all he can do
for a sand covered land walked on by man.

Like the trees I forgot that love too is free
and ingrained in my soul are directions to home
but for those just like me - I can’t map read,
he devised an ingenious fail proof plan “B”.

I will come to know through pleasure, through pain,
perhaps through love, that I have all I need
to grow, bear fruit, change colours and leaves
and remain secure in all I believe!

Helen a little bit different for you and I really liked your comparasions between nature and man.  I especially loved the last verse and have kept it to read once again at my liesure.  Very nicely done on such a bittersweet topic, but I do like your promising ending.

Great poem!  I really like all of the comparisons to nature, there really isn't all that much of a difference.  Very thoughtful and hopeful.  Thank you!

(big hugggssssssss) This is so very true, and it saddens me to see that still we struggle to bear fruit and flowers the way we should be and that if we can save ourselves before all the trees fall! (sad sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Helen, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Thank you both for reading and responding.  I have been "beaten over the head" by a "friend" for this bit of writing.  Seems it's far from good but we live and learn, I guess.
