Hi, I just came across this.  I hope you don't mind that it is in the spiritual religious section, I just believe that this is where it fits.  Just sort of a tester, this is my first poem submitted here.  Thanks for taking the time to read.

Lest We Forget: Have We Forgotten?

I stand on guard, but no one comes by,
Soldiers lie alone, I wonder why.

No one comes to pay respect,
To sit, to cry, to heal, reflect.

Many who lost a relative dear,
Are not alive to shed a tear.

These families' hearts were filled with pain,
Some saw their loved ones never again.

People used to come in groups large and small,
To see those they knew, pray for them all.

The war is now over, the tears have been shed,
The fields are now green, no longer black and red.

No longer do mourners come in robes of black,
Blood red poppies the field now does lack.

The soldiers gave their lives for peace,
All we give back is a monument or wreath.

The statues have fallen, the flowers have wilt
Does that mean we can forget the blood that was spilled?

You may not feel the despair or be filled with grief,
But you can come and visit, together we'll work for peace.

So come to the field, plant poppies to bloom,
Take a moment to pause, you'll be ready to resume.

The past will repeat, the same wars will be fought,
Lest we forget for what these soldiers sought.

Remember to take a moment each day,
To stop and thank, to think and pray.

(big huggggsssssss) Yes, these wars will just go on and on and on and on and on...until we learn from our history that our leaders forsake! (sad sigh) Until we make a resolution for peace, more deaths, more tears, more balkanization will commence, my prayers are with all the world, this is a powerful debut and belongs right here, I love it!!! Welcome to Passions, sweet friend, may you be inspired by all of us here as we will all be inspired by your lovely words! I can't wait to read more of your lovely words, sweet friend, blessed be the peacemakers, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Well welcome to Passions my fellow Canadian, and this is an absolutely beautiful first posting.  I really wish you would consider entering this into the book submissions, and in case you have not seen that, it is the forum called "Reflections".  If you do decide to change it to a book submission all you have to do is ask a moderator to move it for you, and in this case that would be Lovebug or myself.

Again welcome to Spiritual and we are honored to have received your first post.

Look in your email for a special welcome from all your new friends here.

Wishing You The Luck Of The Irish!

An apt time for this poem.  No we cannot forget those who sacrificed for us and those who are yet togive their lives.  Welcome.  Joyce

Indeed, we must remember, weep for, and reflect upon the past so that we will not repeat our mistakes. I hope to see many more of your poems here!

Oh, make me Thine forever
And should I fainting be
Lord, let me never ever
Outlive my love for Thee

Hi, I just read the poem and it is a reminder that although I live in peace there are others who have sacrificed (their lives) for me and everyone.

Thank you for sharing. I will read it often.
I'm new also and I have been welcomed by the sweetest people.

Welcome to Spiritual Journeys!!! Personally, I certainly do think that this is a most proper
place to post this sort of poem that you have written because your setting here is found in
a grave yard as you reflect upon the lives and souls who have passed before for the
preservation and pursuit of Peace on Earth and Good Will toward Mankind. I agree, how
soon we have seemingly forgotten and even more so does your poem become vivid and
meaningful in my mind's eye as I consider the most recent world events. I think that your
last line is very proper and relevant to what a disciplined life should be... We should take a
moment each day to reflect and to pray. (Amen) Very good poetic expression here my
friend and again Welcome!!!

maybe one day, we shall not have any buried soldiers to remember?
Welcome to Passions, I felt your heart beating in this post, and welcome more words from your pen into my home.
