The Contest

I'm just a little country girl,
I used my garden cuties
And entered my design against
Their bold, imported beauties.

I checked for a good proportion
For rhythm and balance too.
For contrast, dominance and scale,
Elements for them to view.

The judges counted up the scores,
Looking for creativity.
When they all nodded and agreed,
"Best of Show" had gone to me.

I was so pleased my entry won,
My heart went pitter-patter.
When good judges do their jobs well
Exotic doesn't matter.

And so it is with our own Judge,
He won't rate us rich or poor.
It's what we do with what we have
That reflects our final score.

(smiles) Oh Joyce, this is gorgeous, sweet firend, I love it, I love the metaphor you use, it is so novel and truly I think with the charisma and purity of heart you always give to others you will always be repeating the title as the only true Judge other than Him is yourself! (kiss on cheek) God Bless You, sweet friend, take a bow, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Joyce, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Joyce:  This is a wonderful parallel between your winning a prize for flowers and what we hope to win at the end of life.
Excellent job.  Congratulations too!

Joyce,

Congratulations!!!!  But, I knew you were very creative as evidenced through your poetry and this poem is of no exception my friend.... A real winner!!!  I'm glad that we will be judged according to our own abilities and not according to the abilities of others.  Again good work here and God bless.

Joyce~
I absolutely LOVE this!  Congratulations to you,
and what a wonderful job you've done of putting it
into verse and twisting it into such an important message.
VERY nicely done.
Hugs,

I'm browsing Joyce in areas I have yet to travel. I found this gem and feel as if I hit 'paydirt' Lovely for sure.

Thank you Spirit.  It's strange.  That is exactly what I am doing today.  We're having a flower show Thursday and today I am searching my yard and setting up my designs.  Yesterday I was in Seattle judging a show and then critiqueing by request.  You couldn't have found this at a more apt time and I had forgotten all about it.  Love, Joyce

The greatest thing is not only does he not judge us by our real worthlessness, but if we accept, He makes our hearts White us snow and accepts us as His! Wow, He's amazing.

What a true and wonderful parable, Joyce! God gives us the materials.. and He watches the work we do with it!

Oh, make me Thine forever
And should I fainting be
Lord, let me never ever
Outlive my love for Thee

Joyce-
I'll have to say again - I have so much to learn about poetry.  This poem is so happy and warm.  I love the way your poems incorporate your own everyday life with your spiritual emotions.  Very well done.
Thank you and God Bless you - Tim

Joyce, the ending was not at all what I expected!

This is the kind of poem I just love. It held my attention, it was well written and it had a surprise ending with a great big important message.

Brilliantly written. Hugs, Marti
