I just thought I'd write something different. Writing is stuck in slow motion these days. Apologies. This isn't my best, but the clutter nees to clear.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
why a woman my age doesn't have babies
racing through the hallways
of some fairytale happy house
is just beyond the grasp I suppose
of those whose children were due
near the time they were facing
high school graduation.
I don't condem the younger ones
who have the younger ones
but leave me to my decisions
to face my present world without the sound
ofscreams being catapulted against my nerves.
Children are beautiful
but so is the rest of my youth.
why a woman who seems to have so much instinct
for kindess and strength
doesn't have a bundle of a newborn
cushioned against a proud motherly chest
is just beyond the grasp of those
who were rushing life
near the time they were supposed to be exploring slowly.
I hold no scorn or distaste
for the younger ones
who were in a race to grow up,
fell in love early,
(or thought the did)
but leave me to my slow realization
that I'll be wanting that bundle
when I can give it a life
bound together by more than just chaos.
Children are beautiful
but so is knowing
they were welcomed
with a heart bearing a hungry smile
instead of a worried and regretful frown.
And if it goes beyond some people
why a woman my age doesn't already have children
than the reasons will pass them by
and I will continue to wait
until I am fit.
~~I Love You~~
I really enjoyed this, it made me think.
Very honest, and insightful.
Of all I've lost I miss my mind the most.
Unbelieveable how people gauge your life by their ideals. Heaven forbid that some of us should stray from the flock and find our own way. Besides how many of those people are ready for the responsiblity when they haven't learned to take care of themselves?
well after you have one and shut them up,
then for 5 freakin years after that, i had to hear "well michele, when are you going to have another one, and give your daugther a
brother".........
but somehow, i have this crazy feeling, i may say this to my 2l year old daughter
a few years down the road, altho the thought
of being a grandmother , tho i would never look like one, freaks me out......
Jennifer,
My daughter was 28 without a baby and my son is 32 and no baby. You have my sympathies! People can be incredibly clueless in their rudeness. Know whay I like? That you're gonna be a good mom.
If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
I sure related to this. Two of my friends were about to become grandmas when I decided to have my daughter. Have a child when YOU are ready, and to hell with anyone else's schedule. And don't even apologize if the readiness day never comes. I'm glad to have read this one today.
I am that Gramma!  I was married with a child at 20 and was the last of all my friends but remember that was the 60's   Times have changed, and families are started much later, for many reasons.  But Jenn, you know me I would tell people like this, "sure I will have one and we will share it.  I will take the top half, and you take the bottom."   Merry Christmas Jenn.
A good question is why do some people have children.My sister has two and she has the maternal instincts of a pit viper.
good call, jenn. i'm with paladin above - some people just shouldn't have children (in my op). oddly enough, it is too often that the ones who shouldn't, do, and the ones who should, don't. go figure, eh?
I think you are very wise to wait until you are ready to have one.
Very wise indeed.  Lucky will be the children of such a wise and insightful woman.
Thank you.
Brava.
