“Funny face I need you ...funny face I love you
these are the sweetest words
I’ve ever heard.”

A song my dad called theirs (my mother and his)
I’m not sure where the funny face
fit in, for her beauty is very exotic

They danced to this song many years ago
as they glanced to each other
with smiles on their faces
moving rhythmically in the world around them

I found the song while visiting on Thanksgiving
I played it on their stereo and I watched
as the years faded.

My dad started to smile,
and slowly got up from his chair
he took my mother's hand
and they danced this song once again.

Their magic still as strong
as the day they married.
The rhythm still struck the right notes

and I cried for their lost years , and I smiled for
the memories that showed on their faces
as the music stayed so strong,
and the romance still danced with them.

When I heard my dad tell mother "I love you"
tears fell from my eyes... for I saw why....

These are the sweetest words I’ve ever heard

such love that survives the ravages of life over time and finds itself able to smile, is the love that should be written of and glorified. For this.. this lasting testament to commitment and respect..has the greater lesson than Romeo and Juliet.

A touching and uplifting piece...
if you have not shared it with them, you should.

Salty, now I know why you are such a sweet, loving person....because your parents have been a very good example for you. This reminds me of my parents. Not only do they still love each other after all these years, but they are still as "in love" with each other as the day they were married.
Thank you for sharing this piece of your heart.

Doesn't sound like your find was lost years but found tears and two who are where we all wish to be. Enjoyed.
