Realms of Light

0 posted 2002-12-12 01:44 PM

Chilling, northerly winds lashed the snow-capped peaks,
forming whirling funnels of white that whipped about me
in these, the twilight hours of my life.
With the sinking of the sun, snow devils appeared as
spectral beings searching the lonely reaches of this faraway place.
The virgin forest was being laid bare and vulnerable as the winds of change stripped the  insulating cloaks of sable from the once proud stands of spruce and pines.
In the swiftly dying light, the dazzling beauty of
late afternoon suns had been replaced by deep, soulless grays.
A chill had invaded my bones as I trudged onward--lost, cold, and losing my hold on reality.
Snow had begun to fall heavily and my vision was soon limited to only a few feet before me.  I could no longer see the proverbial forest for the trees...  This dwindling trail of desolation that I had found myself on, eventually disappeared and I plunged into the depths of despair and desperation...  Yet still, I plodded on through this nightmare landscape devoid of detail--onward and upward--hoping that I would once again, find my way back onto my destined path and into the Light.

LINDA!  Well, for crying out loud!
This is spectacular, Ms. Poetess of capturing real scenery with equally real feelings. Fantastically balanced and very, very much enjoyed.

Thank you, this is a gem.
Hugs, and warmest regards, Pat

Pat  ~

I appreciate your thoughtful and enthusiastic reply!
I thought I'd stretch my poetic wings and write in a different style and about something less pollyanna.

This poem does not reflect my life or my outlook on getting older. My life is full of sunlight, but when clouds try to get in my way, I banish them!---but until they disappear I know that the sun is still shining behind them!

Captain  ~

I thought I'd write something that was a departure from my usual style and content.
I had to put myself in a different place, so to speak.

Thank you for reading and replying!

'M'  ~

Thank you, dear sister soul!--I will call you if I need some of your light to guide me if mine starts to flicker and dim! Fortunately, that is not presently the case ---this poem was just a poetic exercise for me!

BTW, I extend the same generous offer to you as well!

warm hugs

I must say that I'm finding your writing lately to have much more depth and imagination.  This is a VERY well done piece.
