Locked away in darling drawer
a fabric soft
is more like air then float away
it’s whisper warmed

Open in the attic
a cedar chest refrain
fill it with a heartbeat
sweet sweet love remains

It falls from chain into the pale
a color true
it is a token piece of old
from time of wedding veil

Can a life be measured
by the memories it preserves
or lost to present touches
because of past reserve

Locked away in darling drawer
the hair upon your neck
curled within like silken thread
in book of heart once read

Memories are a tool
much like a hand on door
that opens up or closes
the place your life is stored

Open in the attic
a cedar chest refrain
fill it with a heartbeat
sweet sweet love remains

(smiles) Awwwwwwwww, this is sooooooo gorgeous, sweet friend, I love this and I know how it must feel to have that wedding dress safe and sound as my grandmother has hers behind a glass case on the wall, where it will always be safe! (kiss on cheek) Yay, God Bless You, this is so beautiful, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

You know I adore this poem.  I can see a person sitting there and can almost smell that cedar.  I have an artist's drawing of this picture you have created and I think yours might be the better painting Martie, but then I am not surprised.  Lovely.

Beautiful as always Martie...perfectly exquistite.
Reminded me of my own cedar chest which once belonged to my mother...
and the treasures I have tucked away inside.
Thank you for the remember...and this keeper.

I was going to comment on this without reading the others' responses.  Then I did the wrong thing, and read the responses.  They are lovely.  Mysteria's made me laugh.

I read this yesterday.

Poetry is a very fragile ideal.  We can slam it down and exact a penalty on the reader.  Or we can slip a feeling into a mind, and let it grow.

You slip, and grow.

This is pretty, Martie...very romantic and sentimental.  I can also see the picture you've painted here, as you've done it very well. *hugs*

the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Memories are a tool

Such a touching way to speak of the memories
stored....Sometimes,  I can smell that
cedar chest of old...though I have not seen
one in years...many years...

Martie,
It is for me a memory of tears. I built for my daughter a handcrafted cedar chest. I asked that it be returned as she had kept it. Instead I got it back empty. So now I will fill it with my memories and cherish it even more because of you. This poem will become a part of its contents. Bless you sweet friend, bless you.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
