Pagan script given arbitrary sounds
hidden language out there...culture astounds
why the diversity..concealed message uncoded
but the people used written blocks to build
modern homes would rise at the expense
of crafty folk and supportive guilds.

a civilization here another there
winner takes loser....new game to fare
from Hittite...hair styles went Egyptian
monuments were constructed beyond prediction
the later Romans sent their legions to pillages
affronted other religions by burning villages
created a venue for captives to please victors
once a functional Coloseum....
later a grassland forum

once there was pasture...open field
citizen folk were incensed by a need to expand
so they conquered and leveled surrounding land
and took prized stone..the white glazed lime
then to deface monuments was hardly a crime..
cornices vanished from a family mausoleum
white rock disappeared from a larger Coloseum....

I like these small history snapshots, Martin.
Fragmented images, yet artfully pieced together they reveal a long line of humanity's foibles, past to present.
