Sacraments

The paths do narrow as choices are made,
the world’s oyster becomes stew cooked for four;
there are rewards on the tables we’ve laid,
photographs pressed into a keepsake’s drawer,

of kisses planted, wet and soft on cheeks,
a tiny hand enfolding index finger,
calling out for mama, the first he speaks,
these sepia images that linger.

And later on, when they first learn to read,
write plain poems about trees and flowers,
when they rush to hug you with simple need,
then love rains in son-and-daughter showers.

The sacrificial cup is a blessing,
a wine much sweeter than the store-bought kind,
even though, to drink, the self is given
it ends, softened to a grape more refined.

...and sometimes,
it bubbles like champagne...
with no hangover...

well done, Corinne...

Beautiful thoughts and imagery, Corinne. A tasty vintage, even in its first bouquet.

Excellent write, Corinne... I especially love the first verse. *S*

And just to remind you, not to put any pressure on you or anything like that... *G*

But if your answer to Toe is yes, my life is over. *G*

Oh, never mind... It's over anyway in the asking. *G*
