Christmas Eve Candles

Miniature Christmas tree, glittering gold
An eye of desire to come in from the cold
Icicle windows with glistening glaze
Sparkle in candle wick's magical daze

Holly wreath prickles right down to the core
With tickly tingles that beckon and lure
A finger to chime out a welcoming grin
And pass into homey aromas within

Little feet enter in small pitter pats
Rosy cheeks bundled with hoods over hats
Mistletoe hanging alone in the door
Unnoticed by hugs and warm kisses galore

Succulence oozes from brown roasted bird
Opulent stuffing with raison nut herb
Yams cooked in syrup and cinnamon spice
Laughter of children and tinkling ice

Candle wax dripping in tapering tears
Flicker the memories of life’s richest years
Love long ago brings a smile’s reminisce
My table today edged with comfort and bliss

Candy canes, cookies with sugary gleams
Around a Scotch pine swirling childhood dreams
Boughs are adorned with the flutter of wings
In stillness the angels pluck mystical strings

Christmas is wrapped in a glittering bow
In Santa Clause wishes and fireplace glow
Lights hugging branches of needly pine
Love in a package that only is mine

A star shines upon us from evergreen’s height
Through ages of men it has given us Light
The glory of Christ and a birth we esteem
Shines brighter each year through the branches of green

Unwrapped is the pleasure of small sleepy eyes
My heart is unfolded as ribbon unties
Abundant the joy with each hug and each kiss
The best of a lifetime are the moments like this

Now on with the mittens and out to the car
May your dreams be the visions from under a star
May Christmas bestow you the richness of love
From Santa Clause parents and Light from above

I miss all of you but I will smile knowing this story you tell is a true one of the love I saw in your family.  This was absolutely "chesnuts roasting on an open fire type poetry" and I loved it Liz.

This sounds like something you should read to the kids sitting around a warm fire
while sipping hot chocolate.

Love the warm fuzzies from this read.
