I wandered away from myself
got lost in the path of despair
didn't know what I wanted to find
but I knew that my heart wasn't there

I tried to be somebody else
couldn't see who I wanted to be
I wandered away from myself
in attempting a dream to be free

I swam in the seas of my doubt
while seeking the gifts that would numb
I played in the waters of fear
and fed on the scraps and the crumbs

In the shadows of glass I awoke
and I looked to the fragments of me
but I'd wandered away from myself
and the person I'd promised to be

The darkness of night held me close
as my tears brought the past to the fore
while the waves of despair held my brow
and the paths of myself were no more

I wandered away from myself
in a forest I'd not understood
and iniquity's path has been paved
with the shavings of heart deadened wood

But return to the path I cannot
so I wander forlorn and alone
I wait for the guide and the path
and the angels to carry me home

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Very nicely done Keth!

A little down and dark but skillfully written and presented........LOve the way you kept the theme of the write throughout!

Wow Keth, this is exceptional.  The theme carried through to perfection with a hint of sadness within.   Hugs to you.

I have experienced the feeling of "having lost myself" too many times to count. But as a loved one once told me, "If you look in the mirror, you'll find that you were there all along."

Enjoyed this.

Woven with expertise, most assuredly! Not a forced rhyme anywhere, wonderful language woven throughout and the flow is excellent!

The Guide is there waiting for you to see. You can return to the path of who you're meant to be.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Yes, Kethry, I, too, wandered away and made some wrong choices at different times in my life. You said it all very well, here.

Kethry,

I enjoyed this a great deal.

So many good lines, and I especially like:

"with the shavings of heart deadened wood"

It reads very smoothly and I like the title, as well as content.

Hugs and warm regards, Pat

And I just thought I was witless. *G*

Sorry, Keth... only a bad joke would suffice... I know this too well. *S* You've written it wonderfully. *S*

Thank you.

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Kethry, my heart goes out to you, sweet friend, I too have been in this breakdown and feel I'm going blind only to feel the tangible breath of faith at my ear! (sigh) I send angel hugs of strength your way, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Kethry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Straight to the heart

I could feel ever last word ....for I have been lost myself.  As I told someone in my response yesterday.  A poetic version of Motel 6....we'll keep the light up for you.
