Soft like moonlight, warm as the sun
a true lovin sweetheart, she was one
straight from the old school, old fashioned complete
freckles n laughter and pink glowing cheeks
but now she's in a cell scentenced to life
in another space, another time

She married for love, her special guy
but he turned out, the hard drinking kind
And the years that followed, he beat her round
til one ear was gone, couldn't hear a sound
she was too scared to leave so she made her move
and shot him one day, to cut herself loose

Chorus:
now she wears a ribbon of sadness
round her neck like a weight
and she's lost in the the madness
of winning escape
just a ribbon of sadness
for winning last place
a ribbon of sadness
for conquering fate

some things are sad, some are cruel
some things are empty, after the rules
and fighting for freedom, can cost more than ya got
cause even when ya win, sometime's you've lost
Soft like moonlight, warm as the sun
she drowned in a river of nowhere to run

Chorus:
she wears a ribbon of sadness
round her neck like a weight
and she's lost in the the madness
of winning escape
just a ribbon of sadness
for winning last place
a ribbon of sadness
for conquering fate.

The role of poetry is to utter the un-utterable; to open up
spaces of consciousness and resistance; to language oppressions; to
re-language historie

I love your Chorus but

"Soft like moonlight, warm as the sun
she drowned in a river of nowhere to run"

I've known this feeling and have only recently learned how to swim.

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Eric, this is so very heartbreaking, sweet friend, yet this is bound to be another hit that could touch so manys hearts with this tragic experience and the feelings on it! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet Eric, we all love you so much!

May love and light always shine upon you!

"...drowned in a river with nowhere to run..." so very true.

Do you know how many women ARE in prison because of spousal abuse???
They truly 'just lost it' in a moment of madness and of final, raging back.

And the hell they go through, now!
Sad, sad, sad....

Great poem. Very touching; I liked it a great deal.

Warm regards, Pat

Excellent write, maybe too close to home base for me. I'd definitely cut that ribbon some slack.
I can hear this tune.

Excellent words, and oh, such a sadly true subject.... Do you have the music done, too? I imagine that you could sell millions if you did, because so many women could relate, in some way, to this.

Gentle Spirit....Thanks for the excellent word I sure appreciate your positive input.

Noah
Good to hear from you....Yes, it's heartbreaking but needs to be exposed all the more so as time goes on....thanks!

Thank you Sunkist I appreciate your words and the fact that you took the time to read this and comment on it!

Pat
It's so true so many women are affected this way and the heartbreak and pain they go through should never happen.....I thank you for your insightful comment!

Thank you Midnite....Yes the ribbon should be cut some slack maybe even an acquittal would be in order in a lot of these cases....thanks for the input and sorry to hit too close to home but this has to be written about.......JMO
