Indigo Laden Skies

the silence of the night arose
in deep indigo laden skies
the gentle plodding of camel’s toes
were their obedient replies

they softly sifted the sand
its dust a gentle cloud
the night a silent awe
as camel heads were bowed

a star in brilliant glow
drew them from the east
they rode in rhythmic steps
atop each two-humped beast

their mission a bit unknown
yet wise enough were they
that something quite profound
would happen in their way

they followed rapt, serene
as diligently they paced
to find the glorious thing
that sent them on their chase

at last they came within
the tendrils of its gleam
and neath the wondrous light
there flowed a beauteous stream

upon their knees they fell
a greater awe could not be felt
with gold and myrrh and frankincense
they praised Him as they knelt

somehow they knew the King of Kings
in a manger, oh, so small,
they left another way
abiding angel’s call

wise, so wise were they,
to heed the angel’s voice
they kept Herod’s hand at bay
by making the right choice

Virginia,

I enjoyed this ~story~ a great deal. You told it well in good rhyme and reflected the beauty it deserves.
I could see them traveling with your descriptive lines.

Hugs and warm regards, Pat

I found the ending complete, stunning and contemporary in that choice seems to be on top of everyone's mind. Great picture too. Thank you.
