My hands have held riches beyond compare.
For all the diamonds, rubies and gold cannot
equal that which my tenderness has felt..

My eyes have wept countless tears of love,
sadness, joy, compassion and friendship.

I have tasted the wine of sweetness, the grape
of bitterness, drank the scourge of one’s
palate and swallowed the most tender of
morsels...

This blood, my blood...flows in a rage throughout
the shell of my humanity as within me, each cell
shouts for me, for what I hold...and have held.

Though the ashes contain the Phoenix, the sands
the pyramids yet known, the stars the life that
has yet been seen....my eyes rest...knowing
they have seen and gazed upon beauty,
grace, the flight of a Gazelle, the flutter of
a butterfly on a Spring day as birds soar
and eagles fly...

I leave behind...
The memory of my smile...the sound of my words....
The feel of my song as I sing....the beat of a heart
that has said countless times...  I love you...

Let each sun rise to your shadow as I stand,
basking in the rays of hope.   Let each star
shine above you as my hands lift, brush
away the clouds of darkness...and touch
the heavens above as the gentle breezes
caress your hair...bringing a smile..

Knowing...
That I have created, touched, kissed,
held within my arms our most precious gift....

Life...

As a newborn cries with me...

There is nothing more precious...
the cry of the newborn is the song of God's creation.  I loved this. TD

Beautifully written piece Magnus, you have led a full life and should be proud. Your words and reflections remind me of a Hermann Hesse character.

Barry,

This is beautiful and ~precious~
You are an amazing writer. Though I ~never~ think I know a person by the poetry they write, (Never!), you are an exception for you have to be one of the most kind, compassionate, empathic sensitive people walking the face of this earth, for I cannot see how one can write the way you do without being so.

Enjoyed a great deal.

Though this is of little importance compared to the rest of the poem when you mentioned "flight of the Gazelle" I was touched deeply, for that image has always been one of my favorites; no freer creation, when bounding.

Warmest regards, Pat

Thank you all for your graciousness...and
may one day these words be my last to
those who knew and have graced me with
their company...(though I have every intent
of living a long long time)

Here lies a mere man, of the flesh,
who had only this wish

To be remembered not for that which he did not do,
nor for that which he did wrong...for there were
countless mistakes...

But, to be remembered for those lives he has
touched through words written from the depth
of his soul...that others might live and write
from the depth of their own...and know
that he was a good man...

And that he cared deeply for those who
loved and remembered him as well as
those he never knew...
