Words
Often their use
is a form of abuse

So hurtful can be,
to inflict pain,
you see

That is true Ethel, but it does depend on the sensitivity of the one and the motive of the other. Sometimes, truth does hurt...of course ~how~ it is presented and ~timing~ is ever important.  Also important to get to know a person before administering a good dose of anything. I've been on boths side of the issue. Each side is hurtful to the soul, but that is how we learn. thanks for this reminder.

Hugs, Pat...trying the 20/Less, too, I see. Good for you!

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Ethel, this is so very sad but true, sweet friend, sadly it seems there is an argument to everything in the world and knowing that some are zealous in wanting to feel supreme and can hurt others like a snake bite with words so vindictive! (sad sigh) I pray we all can learn from this and sacrifice language and hurt for words of encouragement and love, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ethel, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Yes, Pat, you are so right...timing and how words are presented are what really counts. I have friends who can say anything, almost, to someone and it still comes out with the love they meant to express. Other friends I have can be just kidding when they say things to people and hurt the person they're talking to, because the words come across angily. But, of course, as you said, the listeners sensitivity has a lot to do with the result of words.
Thank you, Pat...your comments are always filled with wisdom.
(about the 20/less..Some of my poems get so long, that I'm working on getting more into fewer words. I'm enjoying reading your poems, too.)

Thanks, friend

I'd like to echo Pat's reply and add that by thinking before one speaks, many hard feelings can be avoided!

Neat little poem!

As kids, growing up, my parents drilled into us, "Think before you speak and If you don't have something nice to say, keep your mouth shut."

Words I tried to instill in my own children. There is nothing worse than being cut down with words by someone you care about.

Nice job of writing Ethel ... Hugs, Marti

Hello Ethel

You are so right, words hold so many powers and unfortunately can often be used to hurt others.  I prefer to use them in a more positive way, to try and brighten someones day instead.

Take care......Sue

The sadness of words is that they always
seem to be the only thing that is remembered
for a lifetime in our minds....often times
the ones that seem to come to the surface
are those that hurt, often deeply....

Forgiveness is sometimes difficult and
maturity helps us understand that these
were often the only way "they" knew how
to communicate...  and often regretted
the very words they said....  as well as
not remembering them years later...though
the person receiving them...NEVER forgot
or forgets them....until they understand
why...

Excellent write Ethel...
