It's not the
the many times you said
"I wish you were never born"
that did me in
It was the thought,
That if you could say those words
as openly as you did
what words lay hidden?

this is unfortunate.

you are right, though. those words were only what appeared on the surface.

Raph, I agree.. Too often words are said in anger and frustration that don't come form deep inside, but from the surface...  Words can still be very hurtful, though, no matter where they come from.  I know from living many years with a verbally abusive husband.
Sometimes the scars never heal completely.

Thank you both for you thoughts. I hope they were surface but doubts will linger where they may.

Aenimal,

Usually the "I hate you" comes before that, from a very spiritually sick, unhappy person.  It does hurt so much when others blame you for their unhappiness.  Or, retaliate by hurting you because they precieve you hurt them. I am sorry if you are going through this. You have my sympathy  and warmest regards. Hope it gets better soon.

Hugs, Pat

it is always the unsaid that is the most cruel. What is openly said you at least know what is not said is what lies between the lines like a trap covered in fresh snow... waiting to hold you and let you freeze a slow death...

hard words you write... but you express the moments of thought well...

Perhaps the words that lay hidden are the kinder ones! Some people who are angry, and perhaps dissatisfied with themselves, lash out with angry words. Often it is more difficult for them to utter loving words  because that can make that person feel more open and vulnerable. Please hold this thought, dear Raph!

Words can be so beautiful, and so ugly--a painful write of words and the sad damage they can do.

Thank you all for your thoughts but it was long ago, it just came up and I thought I should write about it instead of think about it. Kind thoughts and a special thank you to Earth Angel, very sweet words.

Chilling thought, Raph...  Never considered it that way, but it makes sense.

Too much truth within....Sadly so....I heard
it once said that "In Wine Lies Truth"
meaning that as one drinks....their tongue
loosens and they say what they have hidden
inside...

Amazing how the ugly can come out and be
so very painful....

I can only say that this poem has touched
me...for I have been on both ends of this.

Mark thanks for the reply chilling is a good word to describe that feeling..

Magnus thank you very much for sharing your experience and for admitting you've been on both sides. That takes alot of courage I hope time will heal those wounds sooner than later.
