What is it that you can do
When voices never end?
When someone’s taken
All your hopes
Left nothing to defend.

You always said
This thing was great..
A way I could express
My hurt, my pain, and anger,
And even loneliness.

But now I’m working,
Trying to,
And the voices will not stop.
A song is ringing in my head
But like a buzzing clock.

It reminds me
of each minute.
It reminds me I’m alive.
Past songs, familiar phrases;
They remind me
I should strive.

This thing;
This haunting;
A gift to the great one;
And to the fool
But I ask..

Is it a gift?
A curse?
Or really just
A hole so deep
None can surpass?

(ok I know this isn't good, but I was so frustrated when I wrote it!)

GG,

In your words, clearly, a gift!
You expressed yourself well.

We've all been *~great fools~ at one time or another....a good source to draw from...when writing poetry or prose.

PS: This is not one of *those times for you....smiling here... Liked this, much!

Hugs and warm regards, Pat

AH! morning, your right!
This means night has passed,
yet I am still here: at my desk,
writing!
Its 5:20 AM!
Oh well, anyway, a good day's wishes to you, and much thanks for both of your warm comments

Always, GG

i like the topic,
and i wonder.......
is there a difference between a poet, and someone who likes to write poetry?

I really like this! The sentiment is similar to a song called Are the Songs my disease? written by Katie Jane Garside of Queen Adreena. She has said that while her writing is a gift it is one that consumes her and she is never free from her thoughts as a result.

OMG I hear you I hear you

I used to be in a sound sleep, and I get a good line or two in my head,  jolt up and franticly reach for the pen, paper, lamp, smokes and lighter at the same time.  I'd end up a zombie the next day because I'd work a poem around those two lines, even if it took hours.

Be careful what you wish for though, someday those words your struggling to write might fail you, and losing your self expression (the cursed writer's block) is a terrible thing.
Groovy Oovy

PS were you going for a rhyme scheme here, cause I would be glad to help you out...but in all honesty I think it is good the way it is.

GG, I think we all know exactly what you mean, and at one time
or another have been consumed by our thoughts...feeling we have
to write them down, or get them out some way or another. I, personally
choose writing. I'm just so thankful that Ron has invited us here into
his home to write and to get comments and encouragement from
so many who feel the same way as we do. I can't remember if
I've welcomed you here to our "family of friends" or not. If so,
here's another welcome.

Thank you all, its good to know you can relate and understand!

The difference between a poet, and someone who writes poetry, IMHO; when I was in 8th grade I had to write some poems for english class, I hated it, I hated writing. I was not a poet. Now I love writing, and as I've said, it consumes me.. a poet finds joy in writing; doesn't matter whther they are good or bad. Besides, who's standards can you go by to say if its good or bad.

Sounds like a great song Aenimal!
                  ~~~
Ice queen, at the time I wrote it I wasn't going for anything except getting it written and away from my fingertips. I may change the rhyme schemeish thing there a bit at the end, we'll see.
                 ~~~
garysgirl thank you for the welcome and good thoughts, and yes thank you Ron for welcoming us here to this wonderful place!
                ~~~~~
His blessings to you all.
Always, GG
