~*Winter's Canvas*~

The days grow short and Christmas rounds the bend
As Old Man Winter dons his robe of white
Lone chipmunk scurries gathering his feast
While year's last robin finally heads south

With nightfall, moon appears in perfect shine
Casts eerie glow 'pon nature's work of art
Frail branches bent 'neath weight of winter's shawl
Play shadows 'cross the rooftops down below

The scent of chimneys' exhale fills the air
As streetlamps spotlight snowflake pirouettes
A distant carol warms a chilling heart
While icicles cling bravely to the eves

In silence now the world lies fast asleep
Awaiting gentle nudge of morning light
When Sun with fingers warm shall tease the earth
And brush a shimmer 'cross the icy ground

'Tis Mother Nature's masterpiece in play
A nightly curtain call for those before

~vlraynes

you have not truly met the poet.

what wonderful imagery here Vicky...
you penned a postcard of winter and the holiday season's spirit...
this is like a poetic Christmas Card.
Im still trying to get used to meter without rhyme ...but these read aloud like butter *L*

Frail branches bent 'neath weight of winter's shawl

very cool image and personification!

Well done poetess girlie...to the head of the class for you.

just one line ... one rhyme ... one metered verse ...
if only I could inspire in you ... promised poetic coerce.

A beautiful blank verse Vicky!  I find this one of the hardest forms to write in with the Iambics.     You have mastered it well!  Beautiful.

Absolutely superb and beautiful, too. It has wonderful meter and vivid images all through it. Enjoyed the read.

Now that is poetry!  For someone living where people pay a fortune to stay tanned I find it amazing that you can write of the "real winter" with such polish and ease, Bravo!

And
on your milestone Vicky.  You certainly have graced these halls with wonderful poetry, not to mention great leadership set by example for our teens.  I salute you desert flower!

SweetVicky~
You 'know' that I've counted each precious poem by you as gems ... polished to perfection~

Love you sweet friend~
This is imagery at it's finest~
The 'verse' may be 'blank' ... but the canvas is not~

Congrats on that 5000th post ...~

Shucks, that's a mere drop in the bucket to the e-mails you and I have done in mid-of-night !!

Thanks for that trip down memory lane, Mum, I needed that

imagery was something different for me, but I did
enjoy writing it.  Thanks for the kind words.

Midnitesun...though I have spent a little time
in the snow and even lived at the Grand Canyon
for a year, where I learned what it was like to
be snowed in, most of this came from my "mind's eye",
as you put it.  I believe I was also helped along
by the memory of some pictures and movies that I've seen though.

concerning my work with the Teen forum.
You know that I absolutely LOVE it in there.
Thank you so much for the kind words, and for being you.  *HUGS*

rofl@Michael!

Impressive, Virgil. I came in somewhat dubious - because of my natural dislike of the form, not your talent - but was actually held by this one. Some darn good lines, but more appreciation for a realistic flow.
