O the toils, the mountains before me
though majestic...so treacherous, sheer
with pitfalls of the mind.

The stumbles as feet are placed on rolling
rocks, pebbles falling into the abyss as life
goes on....

A thirst, quenched only by the pure melting
snows...as hands chill to the cup savored,
and rivulets fall between fingers into the
place from whence they came...

Strength to climb with courage to step,
leaden feet almost frozen by the fear of
each footfall...yet...going onward in
a journey that must be taken...

Till the top rises around me, till the
horizon of a newborn sun brings to my
eyes a squint of tear and the beat
anew of a heart challenged by the
thin air....as each breath labors to
fog the still air....  And I stand...
knowing that tomorrow will bring
a new journey...a new day...

Lyra...this is about me, about you, about
so many of us...as we climb each day...

..."A new journey - a new day".....

Yes, Barry, no matter what, may
we all have that courage to climb.

This is beautiful and heartfelt.
Teary-eyed here, for it touches
me deeply.  Thank you.

Warmest regards, Pat

I know that thought so well of the fight for each step, for each breath. You put it into amazing words.
Great Job, I really love this.

Keep it up.
Always, GG

very powerful descriptions here, Barry. Yes, every day can be its own battle. Someone once said that the definition of success is getting up one more time than you fall down.

This is an excellent poem for her. No doubt she will appreciate it..

This is such a heartwarming poem. Sometimes, as we climb, we need others to reach out a hand and help us along.

This is Passions, holding out our hands to Lyra. Beautiful.
