Christmas Gifts

Christmas gifts, twinkling lights
Ice cold air and frosty nights
Warming fires, eyes aglow
Cold still nights, a hint of snow
Somewhere else a baby cries
Children’s faces with hunger’s eyes
No chance for them to feel the joy
Of unwrapping the latest Christmas toy

Trees glimmer with tinsel shine
All is cosy, warm and fine
Christmas food with lots to eat
Families gather friends do meet
Somewhere else a war does rage
Children die at a tender age
No chance their empty plates will fill
Not for them a season of good will

Christmas spirit gifts galore
Santa, sleigh bells and much more
Too much of that, too little of this
The softest touch of true hope’s bliss
Somewhere else a child’s life is lost
Hope lies broken, wars true cost
Tears of despair seep from sad eyes
And sorrow waits in each sunrise

Christmas brings joy and love to you
But somewhere else that doesn’t hold true

Marsha

Breathe through the heat of our desire
Thy coolness and they balm
Let sense be dumb let flesh retire
Speak through the earthquake wind and fire

If only...

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

So very true, its sad to think about those less fortunate than ourselves to live in lucky countries.  Hope is something we can all share, hope that the world becomes a better place for the children of tommorrow. very well written

Marsha, this is heartbreakly true.
You captured the plight of children in war torn countries, so well.

Thanks for sharing this.

I loved the contrast, I love the caring heart that painted the contrast.

You have outdone yourself here, mushy. You set up the contrast in a perfect way to hit with power. I admire the poem and you for the creation..

Dear Marsha...Hope you don't mind me stopping by to take a 'peep'...

It is sad, but true, that as some celebrate all they have...others weep and go hungry and much worse. I know, I for one, will remember your words, and their reminder of the less fortunate, much more vividly this holiday season. I will pray that *miracles* are sent to all those in need of them...as I am also reminded of the *miracles* this holiday season stands for...

Much Love to my friend across the ocean

This is so true, Marsha! It saddens my heart so much to think of all the children who are doing without.

(big huggsssssssss) Oh Marsha, that is actually why I went by the name Mistletoe Angel here: I believe that every day should be like Christmas and that Christmas is for everyone and every child should feel happy on this day which sadly is not true and I wish to help the less fortunate! (sad sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, you have such a loving compassionate heart, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Marsha, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!
