"DAZE END"

Copyright 2002 by:  MARK V SHELDON

Eighteen wheels of reality
imprint their treads
across my naieve assumptions
and my diesel epiphany
flattens me with the weight:
my parents won't be around forever!
I project myself into my future
and sense the sixteen ton loss
across the miles
vividly remembering
conversations I made incidental
while preoccupied with things forgotten
rarely saying "I love you"
before goodbye...

I look at my dog
coiled in a ball of sleep
and can almost see his golden jowels
turn white before me
remembering all the times
he'd bring me his rope toy
to play tug-of-war
only to be told
to go lie down
and my eyes swell
when I imagine
his empty pillow
and the times
when everything else
was more important...

The ring around my finger
reminds me of how much
I am loved
and makes me shudder
at the thought of
living longer than my love
who teaches me daily
to never take for granted
what makes my life
worthwhile...

Mark..You have left me speechless.
This is you at your finest!
What deep, true, wonderful thoughts here...
and before I go babbling on...
may I just say well done my friend.
A keeper in my library for sure!

This is inspiring. Yes, how many "I love you's" we hastily forget, in so many ways, to say or act upon, as if we'll all be here forever.

also...

I like the image of:

..."dog - coiled in a 'ball' of sleep"

Enjoyed. Warm regards, Pat

yes a daze to be awakened from and find the things we take for granted are not always permanent. Well said and insightful wisdom we could all do well to think about

Nancy...  then I am truly humbled.  Thank you for the honor.

Pat -- yes, it is the "simple things" we take for granted and forget to express and do.  Thank you for your words.

Ron, if we're lucky, these realizations occur before the inevitable...

Richard:  the destination's not always seen for the horizon...  Thank you for your thoughts.

Sad that we must be reminded, and that life too often gets in the way of loving--thoughtful words.

Best to play tug-of-war each day.
Now let's go outside and play, it's a beautiful morning!

Wow I don't know how i missed this one!
Beautful Mark we're all guilty of taking things for granted, thank god for reflection so that we may at least, even if only for a moment, take notice of them.

I simply don't know how to reply to this one, because it was so beautiful and touching, that whatever I say about it will make it seem less than it is.
Laugh often, love much, live well.
