The weight of worry, the yearn of
the whispered unknown.  The living of
moments in want of speech.

The toils of drudge and dredge of
soil.  The stillness of the telltale ring
as the wires are cold....silent.

Monotonous tick of the grandfather
as time walks across the room in
slivers of darkened light...Hustle
waning as bustle dies upon the concrete
of a walk now empty...

When...
All is quiet, ‘cept perhaps the tick and
the brush of tail as the dog laughs and
swats a landed fly before the flea jumps
into the pool of waiting hair...

Waiting...wanting to speak the word and
hear the voice of authority.....as a heart
rushes to the beat and words sit on
lips.....impatient....ready for the swing of
life’s rope over the pond of decisions...
Drowning in the overwhelm of fear and
and the wait of a ring....

As the clock ticks and ticks...

Barry,
Some times we can get lost in the well of the libido. You walk very close here. Be well.

Barry...sometimes waiting for something causes time to slow or even stop...you made this feel so real.

Barry, the whole poem is good, but this part was really cute to me....

"When...
All is quiet, 'cept perhaps the tick and
The brush of tail as the dog laughs and
swats a landed fly before the flea jumps
into the pool of waiting hair..."

I love it that you think dogs laugh, too. My little Scooter laughs
and cries. In fact, I'm expecting any tme for him to start
talking back to me when I have those long talks with him.
Now, that would be something, wouldn't it??

NO, not diapers!

Ethel....yeah....I swear my dogs laugh at
me all the time...especially when I have to
clean up after them....sitting there grinning and....

I think this poem could apply to many scenarios...from call from hospital to call from a wayward child found, results of a biopsy, med. tests, even waiting for news of someone's birth, etc. etc.

you captured the apprehension and intensity of the wait well, and I enjoyed all added detail which made it seem I was there waiting too.

Warm regards, Pat

Masterful writing! I felt every tick of that clock as the poem built in suspense.

The art of "waiting" is not one of my stronger points--you've described the "agony" perfectly!!

Your eyes are so perceptive and your mind listens to their visions so well. Marvelous taste of time's relentless movement.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Speaking as an authority on this subject...It is a good one to share...

Funny how time will succumb to the laughter and light of a good friend. Best Regards,
