your prey spent
a night awake,
staring into your
hollow grin,
hearing echoes of
a bubba-belly laugh
in the grand
"good ole boy" tradition;
pondering
the others,
wondering
how many
felled victims
to the dark and dirty
of you
our "finest"

thankful,
the game ended
here
thankful,
I did not play
I got away--

and then,
I shot the sheriff
down, down, down

the price of
a few sleepless nights
is cheap
in comparison,
to the never-ending
nightmares
of those you exploited

it is my hope
your dark, empty eyes
will be forever frozen
open--
with their faces
in full view

goodnight,
may you never
sleep again~~

part avec moi votre courage,
je placerai dans des vos mains
un lis

Just to clarify, I didn't literally shoot him!  But he is no longer employed in law enforcement and I hope, will face charges for the victims less fortunate than I.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't know how literal it is....in my mind it could be any powerful, sadistic,  creep who exploits and preys on the innocent...your last few lines were the jaw dropper!

Am glad you were able to "do something" about it. Terrific!

Warmest regards, Pat

Impressive.  Good to see he isn't getting away with it.

Yes, I second the replies of the others.
I'm glad, though, that you didn't
"literally" shoot him.
You know, though, making sure he'll never be in law enforcment
again to hurt others instead of helping them is almost as effective.
I hope so, anyway. I hate to see people in authority
taking advantage of others. It makes me very angry.

Seems to me that justice, poetically and otherwise, was served!

Great poem!

You pipped a peck of pickled pepper. Enjoyed very much.
