*i've just been feelin lost lately, wondering if i should go back, or how i'm supposed to move on...i don't know if i got this right, but here it is...*

memento

i've been a little lost lately.
Smoke and mirrors,
coke and beers,
a little choked, loaded with fears
and i'm unsure
of where i'm going and where i've been...
who's worth knowing and who's a friend?
Nothing's slowing, but it's slow-going
like a freeway in the rain.

Close my eyes and open them,
the world is still so dark.
Maybe it wouldn't feel so dark
if i just had a little spark.
Give me a hint,
tell me where i've been
tell me how this story ends
give me anything to get me going again...

Give me a memento
so i can stop forgetting.
Post-it notes and Polaroids
Should i be smiling or regretting?

i thought i knew what i was doing.
Good intentions; pay no attention
to that litle voice,
just bench him.
Gonna get out on the road tonight.
i don't wanna remember
if it could've been better
just drive
lost in my mind, not losing my mind.
level of living
stuck on survive.

i'm so uncertain
Give me a clue,
help me with what i'm s'posed to do.
Give me indemnity from these memories,
forget about these enmities
and find a reverie
i can climb back into.
there were some good times... weren't there?

Give me a memento
so i can stop forgetting.
Post-it notes and Polaroids
Should i be smiling or regretting?

a little unglued and still confused...
who is who and who's getting used?
am i losing you
or just using you?
which parts of this rouse are true?
All i have are questions...
What choice do i have?
What truth do i choose...

i got swept away trying to find my way
are the answers waiting for me
or in the thoughts i've kept away?
i don't remember you
i'm not sure if i want to...
i'm moving on
i just don't know where

are you with me?

it's our struggle for identity that leaves us all unknown

Ethan,

You got it right. It is perfect!

nice phrase, says so much:

"Post-it notes and Polaroids"

I like this a great deal... touches something within myself, not so much lost as just plain soul-searching. Taking stock.

Warm regards, Pat

This has such a turn turn turn quality to it
that the lost feeling is palpable...
several good lines in here, Ethan...
all I can say is, it's about time you got yourself
back in here...
we've missed you!

ETHAN! This is quite good. YOu kept me changing gears, forward then reverse, and hoping somehow you find the green light to go ahead. Well done, Ethan poet.

Ethan,
Good write, enjoyed. The answer is within yourself, but I guess you knew that and a good guide would be the golden rule.
"do unto others as you would unto yourself."

You reeled me into your mind and thoughts and it was quite a ride! A rather unsettling experience but very interesting. Most of us, at one time or another can identify with this state of quandary. You conveyed it extremely well!

Ethen, it's so good to see you!

"lost in my mind, not losing my mind.
level of living
stuck on survive."

For me the above stanza said it all...lost in your mind is good, as is questioning purpose and reason, it's what moves us forward.  I wish you the best!

I love the melodics and lyrical quality of your rhymes...(my pip ROB)

Im thinking that even when youre lost...your always one step ahead of the rest...you just seem to know the way back....
and I know that you already know...eventually...we learn that we will in time be able to "smile at the regrets"...thats how we move forward on this path of lifes lessons learned the hard way...
makes for soul poetry...and thats always what I find next to your name.
Yeah....welcome back groovy guy
