Maybe, One Day

she’s come to this now
something she really wouldn’t have imagined
being held up by brackets
on each end of day

brackets of pills
not to cure, merely to cope,
to survive how her body has turned on her
she’s fine, in between the brackets,

well, mostly,
sometimes she wonders
if they are stronger than need be
that perhaps something more
should come from her
that she should do more her part
in this living stuff

but she goes on
beginning her day with substance
and hopes, nibbles and swallows
trusting they’ll work together
for the good of her

at day’s end
she clamps her fist around
pillars of the night
that carry her through her dreams
and her tosses and turns
sanding them into a smoothness
that will be gentle enough
to bear
and even to regale in
one day

Virginia

Sometimes there are so many cures, that one looses sight of the original.  You did well with this portait.  Good to see you venturing out into new territory with your poetry.

Virginia, this sounds like a case of sleeping pills time-released to abade the release of time...  A somber visual and empathetic/sympathetic feeling...
