THE MIGHTY OAK
by
Linda L. Dowd

~*~

Oh, mighty oak, you've stood sentry
Two hundred years or more,
Braving the elements while giving
Refuge to those smaller and more
Vulnerable than yourself.
Time and again, history has been made
Beneath your magnificent outstretched arms.
Oh, the stories you could tell,
Of the loving and the warring,
Of the building up and the tearing down,
Of all the changes you've stood witness to.
Scarred by the events of the ages,
You are one of nature's greatest recorders of time
--Yet asking nothing in return.
But, alas, your days are numbered.
In the name of "progress" you soon shall be
Unceremoniously cut down,
Taking with you one more link to the past.

~*~

I absolutely LOVE this poem .... it talks about how much MORE it is than just a tree

... and they sent him home happy ... one hundred percent.

I always feel, a bit of "us" dies each time one of those beautiful giants are taken away--enjoyed your words!

A "Group hug"--I like that! I'm a huggie person who loves to hug and be hugged! I also love hugging trees and in their own way they hug me back!

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Linda, my heart too goes out to all of Mother Nature and how she has to endure so many devastation and despair! (sad sigh) We all must cherish these roots, the foundations of life which make beauty possible, as nature is our true home! (kiss on cheek) God Bless You, sweet friend, this is sad but wonderfully written, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

You darling sweetie pie! I cannot express how much I appreciate you posting that incredible photo of that magnificent tree. I absolutely love it! It looks a lot like the tree I wrote this poem about. It was cut down to make way for a new housing development.

This was a very kind and thoughtful thing for you to do! You literally do add sunshine to my life! THANK YOU!!!

You are so right!  "Nature is our true home"--I feel so at home when I am outdoors--especially in the forest or by the lake. I feel connected to heaven and earth with our Father Sky and Mother Earth.

~ You are as sweet as a cedar
