The ashes fall up

the sky is humming with flying vessles
they coat the creases where the sycamore waved
a sky now nestles with soot of tinder
the air is full of your remains

they say at night a fire lays down
it has lain down for days
ashes surround a small green thing that starts
then two and I think oh how I miss you
your sweet swollen brown eyes
filled now with ash and blown around

this wind takes it all and makes a fire again
the sky is the color of a tomb
and from the room the moan is calling
to the moon
where oh where is the pretty place
where tears could weep clean
and fall without making prints on face

I have left you so many times
pushing you from my womb the first
oh how you voiced my minutes then
with lines that were so simply made of love began

when will I be through with missing you

The ashes fall up
I breathe them in and wipe them from my eyes
before I realize they could be you
----

I felt this needed an explanation.  The area where I live was devastated by a fire last month.  This week the Santa Ana winds have been blowing up to 60 MPH and have filled the air with the ashes from the fire.  My daughter's ashes also rest on that same mountain...placed there many years ago.

Martie~ Your caring words & heart explains it all to well. I watch the news from your lovely state each day from afar and feel for all the people that are faced with so many terrible ordeals. May your mountains and daughters ashes remain safe...Paul

I felt I knew where you were going with this, Martie, but after reading your explanation and then the last stanza once again, a chill went through me. If that is what good poetry is supposed to do then this is exceptional....

Dearest Marti, I suddenly realized how big Calif. is...how I wish I could come right down there to give you big hugs and share with you  this  heartache  you  are experiencing, as I know you would for me, or others here. This is so touching and heartfelt I am still weeping and I know you don't want that. I feel with you Marty and I believe she is always with you whether the wind blows or not. Someday you will be united again, and I know that doesn't lessen the missing of her now. Losing a child is, I am told the most painful event one can go through and I appreciate you sharing with us this most sad happening. Helping me to understand a little more..you are a brave lady for it takes courage to write of such.  Thank you.

You are in my prayers and may God be with you now at this sad time.

Hugs to you and the warmest regards,
Pat

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Martie, my heart goes out to you, sweet friend, I know how it feels to have such huge fires near you because we had them all summer in Colorado and I hope soon the winter front will stop the blaze! (big hugggssssss) I send angel hugs and prayers out to you, sweet friend, God Bless You and may Michelle's forest forever be protected with love, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Just know I am sending you heartfelt hugs.

The flow was great and even without the explanation this was understood. The sorrow will never leave you, but neither will the Love. Only in the rain will the tears go unnoticed and the fire quenched, only time will cool those winds...but there will never be enough presence here to see that and perhaps this is as it should be. Bless you.

as always, Martie, powerful beyond words and these lines:

where oh where is the pretty place
                      where tears could weep clean
and fall without making prints on face

I have left you so many times
pushing you from my womb the first
oh how you voiced my minutes then
with lines that were so simply made of love began

when will I be through with missing you

                      The ashes fall up
I breathe them in and wipe them from my eyes
before I realize they could be you

...the most powerful of all!

and of course, 'never, until you meet again on the new horizon,' will you stop missing her.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Martie, I don't know what to say, other than my heart goes out to you.  *hugs* dear one.

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Dear one,

I knew fairly early into this where you
were taking us....No, I didn't know
about the winds....but I do know about little M.  and I know how you remember her
in so many ways...She is there,  all around
you...and in you...as she is with us as
well..

Hugs You...

BTW...another beautifully written piece of
Martie's soul...

Martie, I feel so full in my heart right now with hurt and feelings I picked up from you through your poem. This is so heartfelt. I don't know what to say except that I wish I could hug you right now, too. I hope that you can feel all our love and hugs that we are sending to you from your family of friends here. We all love you so much, sweet friend. I know that you will always have your beautiful little girl close to you in your heart.

Martie - a special poem remembering a very special person who made you a parent - who still is with you and at this time even a physical reminder of the love a parent has for a child - I know Michelle's spirit helps wipe the tear as her ash reminds you of all the love you have for her and she has for you and that her memory will last forever - Paul

This is so beautiful Martie, so beautiful that I have no words; except for the ending really hit me hard.

This is a keeper.

hugs you
