You taught me to walk as each given breath
frosted the face of me.   As each smile came
at the glance of you.

I stumbled and you caught the fall, saving some
poor flower from the spill of youth.   I smiled
again at the tug of hands in a tug of war for
just us.

Funny, seems I always found a way of getting
two feet entangled in step of toes.  Always
found the wayward lace that drug the dirt
behind me...

That thin sapling of me grew, became an oak
with deep roots and strong branches, ever
standing the shiver of cold, the swing of
a child..the saw that trimmed a wayward
limb........

Though leaves have turned and  fallen countless times,
and the boughs of my soul exposed to the winds of
change and turmoil.....each sway has been withstood
by the ever deepening roots of my life...

Acorns, breaking the soil, sprouting, growing,
become young saplings beneath my branches
and continue to grow...   Ever protected by
each guardian branch...

And ...  whence the time comes that a once mighty
oak withers, falls... let it be used for fuel...that
the earth shall be warmed....and the youth of my
seed be spared the ax....till their own is done...
as shall be my own...
