The morning brought brightness, warmth...
The hurried rush in flying dash
A young knight, into the bright of day,
before the gloom of night....in scurry.

Praying, as tears fell endlessly against
a window above the clouds, where He
sits...ever watching...

Why?  One asks countless times...as
the Reaper stands ominously aside a
frail soul, awaiting the last gasp, to
swing the final scything blow....
as eyes close and cries sound loudly
in the hushed white of cotton...a place
to rest, foreign to the frailty lying in rest,
now sleeping peacefully...

My tears, cast to the winds of death.  Falling
upon a ground of thorns...Into the dust of
ashes...alone now....

I cannot answer the why, or what...I cannot
say to your eyes that I missed being there..or
that even now....decades later....I still
dampen the dry earth as my feet move
cautiously in the light of life....Awaiting my
own day.....when I will say....
to your eyes....

I am sorry....

Wonderful phrasing throughout this heartfelt write, Barry. You've dug deep and captured something that so many of us can relate to in our own way. An excellent piece!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Barry, a beautiful poem, in a sad sort of way.
The eyes can can speak everything, though, can't they?
