Silence of the Yams

Tis hardly worth mentioning
but still the words must be said
Awake I lay til crack of dawn
then I sat up in bed

I forgot to make the yams
to accompany our family feast
the can still sits upon the shelf
between green beans and yeast

The marshmallow adornment
was used for krispie squares
I really do apologize
if anyone still cares.

No one said a word to me
that something was awry
and suddenly in dark of night
I knew the reason why

Perhaps no one really liked
the yams I prepare each year
Maybe they always ate them
out of love or out of fear

Next year I’ll test my theory
amid Thanksgiving plans
Then I will know for sure if
there’s silence of the yams.

I thought: "I know, I'll just print up Sharon's poem and put it in the usual "Yam server" and put THAT on the table!"

I think my mother must have made mushy yams when I was a child because I won't even TRY to eat them....blech!

Thank you all for reading!

This is a really cute poem. And, so true. Am sending this poem to both adult children, for can they relate.

Not Hawaaian not candied, no matter how prepared, they pass.

Enjoyed. Thanks, Pat

LOL, I love yams, my daughter thinks they are disgusting. Tempura batter fried yam slices, Japanese style, or fresh baked, not canned please.
I'm starting to get hungry.

PS, I loved the poem title, LOL.
