Right of Way

Tough ... ... ...
or so suggests the bulging superstructure
and thick, steel plate
of the tow boat as it pushes upstream,
scattering a fleet of aluminum craft.
Its bow wave grins through a native run
of spring chinook.
From the elevated wheelhouse
a horn blasts
till a tiny, smiling wooden sloop
changes, peacefully, its course,
remembering an ocean
crossed.

RMW, I like the picture your words brought to my minds eye
here of the little boat just moving along.

Picturesque with meanings as deep as that sea.  Love this. It causes me to think.

wonderful painting, Bob!

one can not only see the view, but the intent of the helmsman

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Bob

You touch so gently on a big thing...a wonderful metaphor!
