There's a chill blowin' in from the North this morn
but I guess it's just what I expect--
it sure felt good to sleep again--
there's rest to be found in dreamless retreat.
There was frost on the grass and it bit my toes
as I shivered my path to the morning news--
not much coffee is needed now--
ice is better than caffeine.
I think I'll take the curtains down--
I want to see the sky today.
I want the sun to shine on me
and warm my bones in healing light.

It was a dose of medicine
to go home once again.
Funny, I've been alien
ever since I left.
No explanations are needed there--
there is no harangue of "why"--
if you are hungry they'll feed you,
and when you weary--they grant sleep.

Now I'm back in my foxhole--
incredibly alert to sound--
waiting for the sneak attacks--
sometimes it's all too much...

There are times here
when I pretend--peace--
sometimes even Charly sleeps--
but always there's expectancy
of when I'll have to rage again.

I wonder
who has ever won
a war
of such futility--
what is it that I'm fighting for?
*fighting to remember me*
an innocence forever lost
home is just a memory--
if I live
I'll wear the scars--
raising this unlikely child
for I have birthed
instinct to kill...

I spawned hatred in myself.

Serenity,

Your title says it all, and you are not alone. This most likely will have been my favorite of your poems, it SPEAKS..... to many!

Excellent, to say the least.

Thank you for this.

Warm Regards,
Pat

You have experienced a great deal in life and all those experiences have lead to who you are today. We truly are the sum total of all our life experiences. The beautiful, loving, carefree spirit of Karen still resides in you. She has perhaps had to deal with too much in life and she sometimes seek refuge deep, down inside of Serenity Blaze.
When you look in the mirror, look deeply into your eyes and you will see her smiling back--and give her the love that she deserves.

Serenity - this is an amazing write. Frightening, poignant, but amazing in its honesty. I actually see two poems here. The sad ending is 1 and the hopeful part is 2.

would love to see it written as such.

Part I - the fear, the sadness, the horror

Part II - recovery and hope.

Publish it.

loved this:

I think I'll take the curtains down--
I want to see the sky today.

Wishing your soul peace,

Core

And if all tear drops went to heaven ...
And if all pain was divine,
Then honey would I be your salvation ...
baby I could I make your spirit shine.

Theres a light trapped behind your eyes...
all my life ... all my life I waited to see your spirit rise.

This was a very poetically accurate observation.

Wow. I loved these last lines. This is one of the few poems I'm not sure I want to relate to, though I do relate anyway. Thank you for writing so beautifully always.

Serenity~ A very serious poem that comes from deep within your heart. Makes me think about someone that has faced the enemy within and prevailed thru strength and dedication...Paul

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Karen, I hope all of this is out of your bloodstream now, sweet friend, believe me, I too knew these feelings ever too well and it takes a lot of courage to fight it all away! (sigh) This is well-said, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karen, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!
